Start Server
The start server option enables the communication link between the Back-Office PC and the workstation monitoring option it restarts the interaction between the Back-Office and the workstations, and returns priority to the workstations functions. This function reverses the stop server function.
Stop Server
The stop server option executes a program that prevents the communication between the workstations and the Back- Office computer from slowing down the Back-Office. Using this option gives full priority to the Back-Office functions. Activity at the workstations no longer interrupts the functions you are performing on the Back-Office PC. Removing the monitor cause a delay at the workstations, as employees must wait for the Back-Office to finish first.
Restore Main Server
This option is available on the Emergency Backup Server and allows to start the restoration of the Main Server by sending back current information. When the Main Server is operational again, this option changes the status of the Backup Server back to Backup status.
End of Day
The End of Day option from the Server Control/File menu allows to compile information from the day and direct the information to the various report files, such as daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Before closing, the Back-Office checks for open tables or open checks. Any open table or open check displays on the screen with the server number. The Back-Office aborts the closing function if any table or check is open. You must close the open tables or checks at the workstation before trying the closing function again. The End of Day should be executed each day once a day. The process can be done automatically if you have enabled the Automatic End of Day field in Server Control/ View/Option/Monitor Option Branch screen.
Closing Steps
The Back-Office balances entries and starts the closing function. The closing function consists of several steps. The most important steps in the End of Day process are :
Prepare checks for archiving
Prepare daily sales
Inventory process
Accumulate weekly report and restart communication
Accumulate periodic report
Accumulate monthly report
Accumulate yearly report
Remove temporary file
Backup data internally into the BACKUP directory
The workstations are not operational during the closing process.
If you have failed to close more than one day, you must use the End of Day option for each day. Closing the current day cannot take place before 12 p.m. If you have forgotten to close the previous day, the Back-Office displays a warning. The Back-Office also indicates if archiving is necessary. You may perform the closing function from any workstation, but you must close all tables and checks. The End of Day does not print any reports after the process is completed. You can generate your reports when you are ready, using the report generator. If the End of Day was not terminated for some reason (e.g. power failure) you can use Cancel End of Day option to bring the Back-Office to the state prior to the End of Day.
Multiple End of Day
The Multiple End of Day option from the Server Control/File menu allows you to close all days between the Accounting Date (last day closed) and the System Date (actual date). The difference between the normal End of Day, is that cumulative sales will not be affected. You can use this option for a system, which is installed in a river boat for example. For a restaurant that is closed one day for a special occasion (ex : Christmas day) you should not use the Multiple EOD option. Make instead two consecutive End of Day because your cumulative will be updated this way.
